Body Capture has worked itself through 50 pages to date. Still moving forward. The script is 97 pages, so this puts us just over the halfway mark for the body capture.
The injuries to date are - hit head on floor (aka. faceplant) diving off a ladder, a slight reoccuring ankle sprain from an arial fight, and a couple of rug burns. That's certainly not going to slow us down!
Once body capture is completed the editing process begins. In editorial, the motion data will be cut into scenes and edited into the rough cut. Editorial should be completed by December. This is quite a process!
Sometimes it takes a little extra to get into character. When going over footage for the day, this little dance was spotted and some music was added for fun! Enjoy!
This month we talk about the challenges of recording dialog at the same time as doing facial capture. Usually, to record dialog you use a "pop" filter (#15 below.) The pop filter eliminates loud P and T sounds in your audio - bad!

A typical setup like this would not work in conjunction with the facial capture dots - because it covers the actors faces! Not to fear Joe is here!
Although we are measuring Motion Capture in weeks, we only capture about one day a week. The rest of the week is spent either preparing for the next session - by creating new characters, building sets, and choreographing fights - or the time is spent in the editing room cutting the past weeks scenes together.
As of the fourth week, we have motion capture for the first 15 pages of the script, and the first four scenes are edited!
This fourth week of Motion capture also brings two more fight scenes - definitely going to have a sore body by the end of this week! So - 16 weeks of capture - and 48 scenes to edit! Go Go Go!
Our week of dialog recording gets underway! In this episode we setup a Phasespace motion capture system in a 7x10 sound booth, the actors figure out how to rig their faces up and still eat lunch, and we capture, video, audio, and facial data! All dialog for the feature animation was captured in one week, all in realtime, whoooooo!
